Comox Fire Rescue

Prevention, Emergency Response, and the Comox Fire Training Centre

Comox Fire Rescue provides a variety of preventive and emergency services to a population of over 18,000 in an area of 16 square miles. This includes the Town of Comox, the Comox Fire Protection Improvement District, the Bates Huband Local Service Area (Regional District of Comox-Strathcona), and the Comox Indian Band. They also operate the Comox Fire Training Centre, which trains firefighters from all over Vancouver Island, and even parts of BC and the rest of Canada. The training centre is certified by the JIBC.

Meet our Members - Terry Lonsberry

Could you provide a brief background of your fire service career?

I have always had a strong desire to help people, so as soon as I moved into the Comox Valley and close to Comox Fire Rescue I knew right away that I wanted to be part of this team.

What is your favourite part of volunteering for Comox Fire Rescue?

As a member of Comox Fire Rescue we are given the opportunity to learn from and with true leaders in the fire service and some very dedicated professionals.

Outside of the fire department, what are your interests/hobbies?

I have always been into the outdoors, biking, swimming and exploring this beautiful island with Laurie in the Jeep. There are some pretty cool places to escape to around here!

What is your regular “Day Job”

My regular day job is a Personal Trainer. I own my own business and specialize in nutrition and weight loss.

Do you have family/children/pets?

I am blessed to have my fiancée Laurie by my side, 2 daughters and 2 beautiful grandchildren just down the road in Nanaimo. Laurie and I also have 2 dogs that keep us on our toes.

If you could change one thing about the fire service, what would it be?

As I am new to firefighting the only thing I would like to see is more fire safe technology built into homes, for example if there were more systems built in to our home for fire suppression and to help people get out safely there could be a reduction in injury and fatalities.

Chief Schreiner states, "Terry has been a great addition to our team. His dedication to learning and fitness is warmly welcomed. Thanks for being part of the team Terry!”
